Scheduled Auto Maintenance Part 1: Know Your Owner’s Manual

When do I need to do scheduled auto maintenance? Should I worry if I pass a deadline for auto maintenance? Can’t it wait?

When Do I Need to Do Scheduled Auto Maintenance?

When Do I Need to Do Scheduled Auto Maintenance

There’s a reason the title of this article includes the words “know your owner’s manual.” A lot of people in America never even crack open their owner’s manual. And then they end up bewildered when their car breaks down and the auto mechanic gives them bad news. However, if you check your owner’s manual, you can see the timetable for every sort of maintenance that your car needs.

From normal wear and tear items such as brake repair and tires to engine and power train components, everything in your car has a recommended time period to get preventative auto maintenance done. Think of it almost like checkups for your health. Most people put off going to the dentist or doctor until they have a problem. But for your health, a better way is to get a regular check up. The same holds true for your car. Should you worry if you pass a deadline for auto maintenance? It depends on how far past the mileage marker you are. If it is just a few miles, just get it in when you can. If it is in the hundreds or thousands, then you definitely need to get it in ASAP.

Auto Maintenance: Can’t it Wait?

In a word, no. Look at the check engine light for example. That can mean a whole number of problems in your car, only some of which are exhaust related. If you put off going into an auto repair shop, what can be a simple component swap could end up being an expensive repair job

A lot of cars made after 2010 even have a scheduled auto maintenance light that will blink when you first get close to your next mileage-based maintenance. So remember, like a lot of things in life, auto repair in Gilbert is better when you are proactive about it.
